We regularly score in the top quartile of banking sector ESG rankings. Selected performance is highlighted below.
Carbon Disclosure Project
In 2011, we ranked 4th among financial services providers in the FTSE 350 Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index and received a B rating in the Carbon Performance Leadership Index.
Our two point increase to 89 out of 100 compared to the 2010 score reflects our ongoing commitment to improving disclosure and management of our climate change impacts.
Dow Jones Sustainability Index
The (DJSI) tracks the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. In 2011, Barclays maintained membership in the DJSI World Index, which represents the top 10 percent of the leading companies in the Dow Jones Global Total Stock Market Index.
Our performance did not change significantly in 2011, compared to 2010 scores, reflecting strong performance against the performance criteria. We are committed to continuous improvement, especially in the social and environmental criteria.
The Series is designed to objectively measure the performance of companies that meet globally recognised corporate responsibility standards. We have been a member of the FTSE4Good index since its inception in 2001.
In March 2012, we scored 92 out of 100 on the Environmental, Social and Governance Rating (on a ‘supersector’ relative basis), which was introduced in April 2011.
Bloomberg Green Bank Ranking
The Bloomberg Green Bank ranking assesses financial services institutions on their environmental performance and investment in clean technology. We moved from 24th to 10th in the 2011 Bloomberg Green Bank Ranking, published in March 2012.
